Do not give up on tubes ... emerging markets today with flat panel TVs such as plasma and LCD, most consumers are very poorly informed and believe that the quality of a flat screen is better than a cathode ray tube (CRT) TV. That is not true. The image quality of a plasma or LCD TVs far below a CRT, such as the Sony KD-34XBR970. Even worse, more and more people are buying these flat-screen TV as a "status symbol" and do not understand truepicture quality. Why do you think studios use CRT monitors during production and editing instead of a plasma TV? Most studios want the best, most accurate picture possible, so they use CRT monitors. The quality of the Sony KD-34XBR970 is much like a studio monitor, and surpasses all other displays regardless of cost. The dot pitch is so fine and the picture has so much realism to the point where all other displays look dull and muddy in comparison. Convergence and geometry is perfect out of the Field, and the crowd was fantastic. His picture was depth and dimension, in contrast to the flat look of most plasma and LCD TVs. HD channels look amazing, they are very real and are not unduly increased. The Sony on-board processing and the Democratic Republic of Congo is perfect and does not look pixelated at all sources. The picture is good, clear, and exceptional detail.
One limitation to remember: The set comes in attack mode 'Vivid', which is intended for your attention in the shops with a bright picturebut imprecise. It is much too bright and too sharp. You can see contours and image artifacts in this mode. If you keep the TV in Vivid mode, you are guaranteed to burn the tubes in the shortest time and shorten the life of the TV. In addition, the vivid mode is very accurate in color reproduction. I calibrated my set in the 'movie mode', white with an image (level) setting of 20/63 and a brightness (black level) setting of 30/63. Remember, it is very important to the "image "lowerSetting because it controls the amount of white light on the screen. If you do this, the tube takes a very long and you will be an extraordinary picture. On the other hand, controls the "brightness" setting the amount of dark areas you see in the picture. If you use this device allows you to see more dark areas in a film that will not burn but the pipes or compromising image quality. An accurate picture is better than a light.
Finally, the color decoder adjustment, asEmphasizes strong red color and makes people look red or brown. If you change the 'color axis "attitude of" to "standard" monitor ", the colors are much more accurate and vivid. If you set this setting correctly and make good on, it is the best picture of a TV production and one last very long. (My old XBR TV is 16 years old and still.) I have a neighbor who has spent 10,000 U.S. dollars on a plasma TV and the picture quality much worse than this set. What kind of TV would do you buy?Status symbol is more important than image quality? Remember that after reading this review you are a much more educated consumer.

I also had bad convergence and geometry, I returned it and got a new one and still had the same problem. I am waiting for my third set.
